About RRVBC
Founded in 1952, the Rock River Valley Blood Center, Inc. began as an idea in the minds of the Medical Service Committee of the Winnebago County Medical Society in 1950 due to increased use of blood transfusions following the advancements made in transfusion therapy following World War II.
RRVBC supplies the total blood needs for 8 area hospitals:
* OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center
* Rockford Memorial Hospital
* SwedishAmerican Hospital
* Beloit Memorial Hospital
* Edgerton Hospital and Health Services
* Freeport Health Network
* Mercy Harvard Hospital
* Rochelle Community Hospital
RRVBC must collect more than a 1000 units of blood each week to meet the needs of our eight hospitals. We rely on donors from 6 counties of the Rock River Valley, including Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, and Stephenson counties in Illinois and Rock County in Wisconsin.
RRVBC employs approximately 120 people, including a Medical Director, healthcare, financial, community relations, and housekeeping professionals. RRVBC has 3 locations. In addition, there are up to 3 mobile blood drives each day.
RRVBC is a not-for-profit organization, governed by an eleven member Board of Directors. We are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration; accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks; and a member of Americas Blood Centers.
