Donate Blood

Donating blood is safe, simple and it saves lives. In about an hour you can help to save up to three lives because whole blood is separated into three separate components: red blood cells, plasma and platelets.

When you visit RRVBC you will be greeted by a caring, friendly and professional staff. Upon arrival, you will register to donate with our Donor Services staff. First time donors need to bring a picture ID. Once registered, you will meet one of our Donor Care Specialists and complete a mini-physical and donor history screening. The mini physical consists of taking your temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hematocrit. Your hematocrit is the volume of red blood cells within your blood. The donor history screening is a questionnaire to assess your eligibility as a blood donor.

Once completed you will be escorted to the Donor Room, where you will relax in a Donor Chair. Once you are made comfortable, Donor Care staff will insert a needle into your arm. In less than 10 minutes, the donation is complete, and you have helped to save three lives!!! One whole blood donation is 500 ML which is approximately one pint.

After your donation is complete, you will relax in our canteen where you can help yourself to cookies, popcorn and refreshments. Once you feel ready to go you may leave. That's it! In that short time you have made a huge difference in our community.
