The Rock River Valley Blood Center is awarded the United Way of Rock River Valley’s Non Profit Family Friendly Workplace of the Year Award

The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) proudly accepted the United Way of Rock River Valley’s Not-for-Profit Family Friendly Workplace of the year award Thursday, February 14, 2008. RRVBC CEO, Linda Gerber, received the award on behalf of the Blood Center at the United Way’s Annual Community Thank You event at Giovanni’s in Rockford.

Award winners are chosen for offering exceptional benefits and resources to employees that help to promote family involvement in the youth of our community. RRVBC was selected based on employee benefits offered including: 100% tuition reimbursement, flexible spending account for medical, dependent care, etc, EAP-Employee Assistance Program, Discounted gym and health club membership, on-site Weight Watchers meetings with reimbursement up to 50% for weight loss and meeting attendance, Smoking cessation program, employee and dependant health care provided with a significant portion paid by blood center, Holiday savings account, flexible scheduling for school conferences, events, medical appointments.

Family Friendly Workplaces
In 2004, one of the goals set by United Way of Rock River Valley was to investigate and implement a set of criteria that would identify local employers who offer “family friendly” places to work. In doing so, United Way hopes that by way of recognition and education, more employers will choose to follow the example of their peers and institute policies -that take employees and families into consideration on a consistent and visible level.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center is the sole supplier of blood and related services to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford Memorial Hospital, SwedishAmerican Hospital, Beloit Memorial Hospital, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services, FHN, Mercy Harvard Hospital and Rochelle Community Hospital.
